THE CARS ARE THE STARS !

The 2025 Southern Classic will feature a bumper list of top level classic and historic race cars, with a total entry list of over 200 vehicles, worth well over $15M combined.

HISTORIC SPORT SEDANS AND ALLCOMERS 

 

Based and run from the North Island, this group features a huge range of historic New Zealand Sports Sedans and Allcomers.

Think of fire breathing v8 and 6 cylinder fat tired monsters which make up one of the fastest fields of cars at the event.

There are some very famous cars in this group, and the North Islanders will battle it out with South Islander competitors in historic OSCA and Allcomer cars. 

You'll know when these cars roll out on the track as you'll really be able to SEE THE NOISE !

Pre 78 Saloons

 

New Zealand's largest field of classically orientated Saloon cars.

Pre 78's feature a wide range of pre 1978 racing cars that never fail to provide close and spectacular racing. Think Mini Coopers vs. Vauxhall Viva GT's, Ford Escort's vs. Hillman Avengers, just to name a few. Then in case that wasn't enough, there's Chev Camaros, and Ford Mustang creating some of the best David vs. Goliath racing on any track. 

All the cars in this group are impeccably turned out and many cars are still road registered. 

CLASSIC ALLCOMER SALOONS

 

This groups consists of almost any race car you can imagine, as long as its Pre 1990. This group features stripped out, red-blooded race cars from all walks of life. Think of Mazda Rotary RX3's vs. Fiat Uno's vs. Datsun Sunny's. There something for everyone, and the racing is always great to watch. Maybe you may have something in your shed which might make a great race car, this group maybe the inspiration. 

OSCA

2025 sees the Southern Classic proudly hosting the one of New Zealands oldest and longest running championships.  OSCA stands for Open Sports Car Association, founded in the 70's in the South Island this group is host to some of New Zealand's fastest saloons, and the sheer speed of this diverse range of cars is simply incredible.

If you weren't excited you certainly will be when these cars hit the track !

PRE 65

 

We proudly welcome back another of Nz's oldest racing groups, formed in 1975, Pre65 continues to this day to provides exciting tin-top classic racing with v8, 6 and 4 cylinder classes all battling out for champioship points.

Levels Raceway always brings the large and small bore cars closer together so expect to see action packed racing.

VCC AND HISTORICS

 

Many of the single seater and sports cars in this group are a piece of New Zealand motorsport history. They are the cars that competed in period during the 1950's and 1960's. These cars are also combined with "new" specials created in the spirit of those bygone years.

HISTORIC FORMULA FORD SOUTH ISLAND

Formula Ford has long been a stepping stone of many young race drivers careers to the top.

The South Island based Historic Formula Ford group celebrate the restoration and racing of these iconic machines. Racing is always close and position changes are hard fought. See the cars the formula stars learnt from.

HVRA 

The Historic & Vintage Racing Association NZ was formed in 2021 and are committed to preserving motor racing history.

The group presents car with correct historic form and function complying to MSNZ Appendix Six.

They will be Running a great feild of cars coming from all over NZ at the Southern Classic, and will also have their club Patron Graham Baker as a special guest racing a 1963 Pikes Peak Falcon Sprint owned by Leon Hallett.

If you like historically correct race cars, and a wide range of marques, and types, this is a great feild to watch.

 

 

FORMULA LIBRE 

 

Libre as a definition means 'open and free', and this class represents that philoshophy applied to racing vehicles. This catergory is made up of a wide variety of cars from Formula Fords, Formula Pacifics, and some sports cars.
