'Hi and welcome to the Classic Motor Racing Club of NZ website or CMRC for short, the only Classic/Historic motor racing club in the South Island of New Zealand.
We are a bunch of like-minded old race car enthusiasts from a variety of backgrounds and age groups who love going to Historic Race Car meetings especially throughout the south to compete in our obsolete but much loved vehicles.
We organise and run three events annually ourselves at the Levels race track just out of Timaru in the South Island.
The first being the Brooklands race meeting in early spring where we compete as a club against the invited Historic motor cycle club for a trophy partially composed from the original UK Brooklands track.
In February we have our three day glamour meeting normally with over 150 entrants from both New Zealand and overseas as part of the Southern Festival of Speed where contestants race over 3 different tracks over 3 consecutive weekends. The circuits being Ruapuna, Levels and Teretonga.
In late Autumn we have our final 'fling' before the cars are put away for winter and the subsequent tuning that occurs during that time.
Further to those events our members are also invited to other Historic meetings or classes at meetings right throughout the country
We fall loosely into five groups or classes:
1/. Old single seaters mainly front engined built from pre 1960 parts who comply with NZ Vintage Car Club regulations and specifications.
2/. Later single seaters such as Formula Fords and the early wings and slicks formula style race cars.
3/. Classic Saloons that comply with Motorsport NZ T&C regulations or FIA Schedule K
4/. Classic Sports Cars that comply with Motorsport NZ T&C regulations or FIA Schedule K
5/. Invited guests who have either exotic or intriguing Classic marque vehicles or other historically significant race cars.
We are a Club that embraces anybody who is passionate about old race cars who wants to compete in a fun relaxed and friendly environment.
